The AI Receipt Scanner uses optical character recognition (OCR) technology to extract structured data from receipt images. Available on Pro and Business plans.
How It Works
Upload a photo or scan of your receipt (JPEG, PNG, or PDF format). The OCR engine, powered by Tesseract.js, analyzes the image and extracts: merchant name, transaction date, individual line items with prices, subtotal, tax amount and rate, total amount, and payment method when visible.
Best Practices for Accurate Scanning
Use well-lit, high-resolution images. Ensure the receipt is flat and not crumpled. Capture the entire receipt in the frame. Avoid shadows or glare across the text. Use a contrasting background (dark receipt on light surface or vice versa).
Supported Receipt Types
The scanner works best with standard thermal print receipts from retail stores and restaurants. It can also process handwritten receipts (with reduced accuracy), fuel station receipts, utility bills, and digital receipt screenshots.
Accuracy and Verification
OCR accuracy typically ranges from 85-95% depending on image quality and receipt formatting. Always verify extracted data before using it for accounting or expense reporting. The scanner highlights low-confidence extractions for manual review.
Using Scanned Data
Extracted receipt data can be used for expense tracking, tax deduction documentation, and reimbursement claims. While the scanner does not directly create invoices from receipts, you can use the extracted data to populate expense records in your financial tracking.
